Dr Sechene Stanley Gololo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Dr Gololo holds a PhD in Biochemistry which was awarded amongst the first four PhD graduates at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Limpopo. His research interest is located in the field of Phytomedicine, which involve the phytochemical analysis and antimicrobial activity of plants used for traditional medicine by the local community of Zebediela sub-region in Limpopo province. The research also focusses on the effect of environmental factors on the phytochemical composition of known medicinal plants with the aim of establishing the suitable conditions under which optimum health benefits could be harnessed from such plants. He has published research on the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants extracts and the effect of environmental factors on the phytochemical compositions of selected medicinal plant parts.
